QIP Now Supported Print E-mail

qipQIP (http://qip.ru/) is a popular Russian ICQ/Jabber client.  Both QIP 2005 and QIP Infium store logs, but in different methods.  QIP Infium stores logs in an encrypted QHF file that needs to be converted to the QIP 2005 using the QIP History tool (http://www.logconverter.com/qiphistoryconversion.rar).  Once you have converted your logs, the Chat Log Converter+ is ready to convert them to whatever client you want to use!

If you want to go to QIP, just select the "To" client as QIP and click!  QIP Infium will import these QIP 2005 formated logs.

Jabbim Added, Few More Bug Fixes Print E-mail

I fixed a couple small formatting bugs in Trillian, Adium and Digsby - mostly related to new lines.

Don't forget, for those Clients, you can UNDO the previous conversion, without losing any of your new chats since the previous conversion.  This will let you redo the conversion to fix any issues that may have been present.

JabbIMJabbIM (http://jabbim.com/) is apparantly the Czech Republic's most popular xmpp/jabber client.  With that kind of title, it had to be added as a Chat Log Converter+ plugin!  Convert TO and FROM JabbIM logs.

Enjoy

Plugins Updated, Gajim Added Print E-mail

With the help of some Converter users who have been using Trillian since the dark ages, I was able to find some problems when converting from Trillian.  As many of you know, Trillian originall saved their chat logs as plain text files with the ".log" extension.  When Trillian 3.0+ they started writing the chat history as XML files with the normal ".xml" extension AND the still keeping the plain text file current as well.

When a user would have a chat, or view the past history with a user, the LOG file data was imported into the XML file automatically.  This means the every XML file has the same history as the LOG.  The problem occurs when Trillian is importing the data into the XML file because the LOG file is very variable.  Running some tests on my own, I found many problems - the biggest being conversations seeming they were coming all from ONE person.  This is something that can't be avoided because of the way Trillian kept their LOG files.  There just was not enough data in the LOG file to have the necessary info to create a perfect XML file.

SO - what does that mean for you, and for the Chat Log Converter+? - It means that you'll have to accept some problems (if any) for logs created before the XML switch (~2005).  This is probably a small subset of users, and it's something that you've had to deal with using the Trillian XML history viewer too, so it shouldn't be that big of a problem now.

As for the updates:

  • GajimGajim (www.gajim.org) plugin added.  Currently supports converting FROM.  This is only valid for Gajim v0.13+ due to a newer database structure.
  • Trillian (www.trillian.im) plugin has been updated to deal with these new problems.
  • Digsby (www.digsby.com) plugin has been updated to fix a bug naming folders with capital letters, b/c the built in Digsby Chat Viewer had a bug in it as well.
  • Text plugin updated to fix a bug where it wouldn't save anything.

Just run the app, it will auto update.

Enjoy - and as always, please donate a couple bucks if you find this tool useful!
